Classical Studies ...

Classes categorizes as Classical Studies typically cover subjects applying to Mediterranean societies from BC 600 to AD 600. Some classes, however, might include information from as far back as BC 3000. This area gives professors a wide range of subjects to cover, so many of them focus on specific research areas. This gives students the opportunity to learn general information about Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome while also taking classics in specific subjects related to Classical Studies. Although classes can change significantly from college to college, there are some courses that you should expect to see in any Classical Studies Department.

Languages Taught in the Classical Studies Department

Many Classical Studies Departments have introductory and advanced classes that teach students how to read, write, and speak in Greek and Latin. Some programs even have classes where students are only allowed to speak and write in either Greek or Latin, depending on the course's subject. Most students find that learning these languages is a challenge because they have not been exposed to them outside of the academic setting. Most Classical Studies programs, however, will require majors to become proficient in at least one language.

History Taught in the Classical Studies Department

Classical Studies can encompass a wide range of history that still has importance in today's world. Wars that changed the balance of power between two societies still have effects that one can find in today's political-economic world. Legal systems developed by early civilizations have been adapted over time to meet the needs of modern people. Classical philosophy also plays an important role in today's world because it asks basic questions about the nature of reality that math and science have only started to uncover. History, therefore, has a special place amongst most Classical Studies Departments. Many Classics students take so many classes in history that they choose to double major in Classics and History.

Drama, Poetry, and Art Taught in the Classical Studies Department

Many classes in Classical Studies teach students about the drama, poetry, and art created by people living in Ancient Rome and Greece. These classes might focus on famous works that most academics are familiar with. They could also choose to go deeper into the artistic outpouring from these societies by exploring lesser known works of drama and poetry. This helps students gain a deeper understanding of ancient society in the Mediterranean region.

Letter to the Mayan Society

Dear Mayans,

This is my first post in 2012 dedicated to you.

I think the end of the world is close enough ! Dec 21, 2012 is the expected day: Global warming, Solar Power increases, Tunnels beneath Denver Airport. Lets clarify some points here concerning predictions (either prophetic or reasoned):

After decades of living immersed in the cycles and mathematics of Mayan calendrics, José Argüelles (1939-2011) came to clearly understand the distinction between this "natural time" as contrasted to our modern relationship to time which he called "mechanical time" or "artificial time." This realization was formalized in 1989 when he made The Discovery of The Law of Time [Oops, my birth date !!].... Anyway, According to The Law of Time, "modern humanity is out of harmony with our living biosphere because it is immersed in an erroneous and artificial perception of time which causes it to deviate at an accelerated rate from the natural order of the universe.

To remedy this situation, Arguelles dedicated his life to promoting the return to a natural timing cycle..." In other words, the message is that humans are the only species that is out of phase with the harmony of the biosphere, and the root cause of this is our disconnection from Nature, which stems directly from our disconnection with natural time cycles...therefore we need to follow a nature-based calendar to shift back into alignment.

In general, our "species" are the main reasons for all problems occurring in the the life cycle, what gives credits to your prophecy. For this reason, many cultures in the world are currently working towards helping Humanity.

What is important here is that some of the main events that could help your theory (shaping the tremendous sufferings and pains) happened in the region: #ArabRevolt #TheArabSpring #ArabLeadersTragedies #Blood #MoreBlood #BlueBra #SouthernSoudan #OsamaBL #OsloBombardment #Floodings #CivilWars #WarsInGeneral .. and the list continues !

From now until December 2012, I wish you a very Happy New Year !

Regards
